What ideas are you keeping up with? It appears that as soon as everyone gets on a bandwagon, we are tempted to join them. But it never quite ends there, you get sucked into a slippery slope of one bad idea after the other.
First, you keep up with the Kardashians. Before you know it, you keep up with the Housewives of Atlanta or the Lekki Wives. On and on it goes, as you follow one bad idea into its various brand extensions. We’re not saying you can’t consume entertainment, but you need to watch out for the values, attitudes and motivations they portray. Most people nowadays don’t know that what you keep up with will definitely have an effect on your lifestyle.
‘You are what you eat!’ That phrase has been around for who knows how long. And quite frankly, it’s not too far off the mark. If you eat well, you are much more likely to have a healthy body and mind. If you choose junk food over fresh vegetables, then this is less likely to be the case. It’s exactly the same way with what you keep up with, whatever you take in, no matter how you try to avoid it, will have an effect on your life.
You’ve probably already heard of the term “lifestyle choices” outside of my mentioning it just a minute ago. A lifestyle choice is a personal and conscious decision to perform a behavior that may increase or decrease the risk of injury or disease. I am positive you have already made lifestyle choices. If you exercise every morning by riding your bicycle, then you made a positive lifestyle choice to increase your physical wellness.
If you choose to keep up with things that add no value to life it’s a personal choice, same with things that add value to your life.
But which would you prefer? Keeping up with the Kardashians or keeping up with the promises and calling of God? The risk described earlier doesn’t kill or irreversibly hurt you right away, though over the years it tends to affect the way you think. If your child continuously watches the way a man does surgery to be a woman or sees a man acting like a woman, then he/she would take it as a normal thing and would want to emulate the behaviour.
So whatever you take in is what to you exhibit. GIGO: garbage in garbage out. Be wise and feed on godliness instead.
