Faith That Works

We have heard many messages on the subject of Faith, but let’s be more practical with it. If you are driving a car, you want to understand how it works; it’s break system, AC system, use of all the parts of the car, e.t.c. A dictionary says Faith is absolute trust or confidence in something or someone. Cambridge: Strong or unshaken belief in God or someone or something. Faith is not necessarily a Christian cliché. It is a universal force or principle of life… You can exercise faith without being born again. You can believe a thing or speak about it till it happens; including a lie.

For Christians, the definition of faith is found in Hebrews 11:1. Faith is believing in the reality of the unseen world. We know the unseen world truly exists; the positive or negative supernatural. The most powerful resources are spiritual resources not physical, the invisible world created the material world. By faith, we understand that our world was created by God’s word (Hebrews 11:3). So the unseen controls that which is seen. (John 1:14) Word became flesh. So there is a way or process of turning the intangible to tangible. It is called Faith.

Apostle Paul said, in Ephesians 1:17-19, everything is intangible but they have corresponding material equivalent in a real world. He also said something about “Revelation knowledge”. For Christians, the foundation for our Faith is “Revelation”. Every time you respond to the word, you build your faith. God uses revelation to create faith in our hearts. (Romans 10:17) Faith comes by hearing. When God impresses His thoughts in your heart, you gain God’s perspective and insights and see it His way. (Isaiah 55:8) My thoughts and ways… both are not the same. He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel (See Psalm 103:7).

Hebrews 2:4 says The just shall live by his faith. We need to have a simple but deep concept of faith and view it from all angles because faith is central to the Christian experience. Some fundamentals of Faith in Bible are;

  • Everyone has the same measure of faith: (Romans 12:3) When we gave our lives to Christ, there was a measure of faith that was given to us to receive Christ in the first place.
  • Faith is good enough to deal with anything in life, it’s a gift.
  • The grace made available at salvation is from God, not from humans.
  • You can accept God’s gift or refuse it. Also faith can grow like a seed. (Read 2 Thessalonians 1:3) Apostle Paul says faith grows and not just intangibly but also physically in LOVE.

If faith can grow, then it can be weak, strong, developed or undeveloped. It can even die… (James 2: 14-26. Romans 4: 19-20). There are three ways to grow your faith;

  1. Hearing the Word
  2. Studying the Word
  3. Meditating on the word.

Matthew 4:4 explains it this way, the way food builds your body is the way scriptures build your spirit and faith. Snack is not real meal you know. It is the same for our spirit.
