TEXT: Joshua 1:8; James 1:21-25
In continuation of our topic last week, today we will treat the remaining tips on how to change and live the extraordinary life:
BE A DISCIPLE AND A DOER OF THE WORD: Our world was framed by God’s word. It can still frame lives… God said to Abraham, Moses, Jacob, David etc, The word is the only way to build faith and capacity. Words have the capacity to change our emotions, how much more God’s word which changes us. Jesus said “The word that I speak to you…” Word received in training and mentoring turned many into professionals. Be courageous at doing the word. (Joshua 1:9). Get an MBA and PhD in the word.
LOOK FOR A MENTOR TO FOLLOW: A model, Pastor or business leader that you can submit yourself to. Mentors can create a shortcut for you in your career and business. Ensure that your values sync with your mentor’s as a safeguard against compromise. Apostle Paul urged the church to follow him as he followed Christ (1 Corinth. 11:1). Elisha served Elijah, Joshua served Moses (Exo 33:11). There is a reason for rolling out genealogy in Genesis. God follows a pattern/order. He doesn’t raise emergency Generals. The disciples were with Jesus for 3½ years (Matt 4:19) under His intense mentoring. There are many sons/husbands etc without the benefits of a father to look up to as a mentor. Even the business and political class understand the importance of mentoring. Jesus was showing the disciples how to do it. Although Jesus was sent to the lost sheep of Israel but Paul to the gentiles.
Who is your mentor? Can your spouse, family and friends tell who your mentor is?
Mentoring accords you the following benefits:
a. It exposes you to a world of possibilities
b. It gives you fresh guide and perspectives
c. Having a mentor develops your leadership skills and capacity
d. Being under a mentor makes you accountable
When you find a right mentor, your association will eventually change in light of God’s purpose for you
RENEW YOUR MIND: The most difficult one. If you want to change who you are, change what you do and that starts from changing your thinking process. It starts with beliefs – thoughts – values – actions – attitude – character – lifestyle. There is a mindset of the world, but there is a mindset of the kingdom. It’s the reason why companies do induction to change your mindset when they employ you. There is a mindset of poverty. What we are today comes from our thoughts of yesterday, and our present thoughts build our life of tomorrow. Renewing the mind transforms our lives. (Roms 12:2; Phil 4:8; Eph 4:22-32; Prov 4:23).
LEVERAGE THE HOLY SPIRIT AND TAKE CHANCES WITH HIM: See the life of David in 1 Sam 16:12-14 and that of Samson in Judges 14:6 & 19. What do you have to offer? Do business or be gainfully employed. Get a skill.
