Stewardship of God’s Assets

An asset is a useful thing or person with economic value that an individual or organizations owns or controls with expectation of future benefits. God wants us to be stewards of our Time (Eph 5:16), and physical body he has given to us.

What is time?

Time is the limited period during which an action or a process exist or takes place. Time is a small measure of eternity. It is the most valuable resource on the earth because everyone owns it in equal measure. Time means the progress of events & the way in which the progress of events is measured (in hours, days, years).

Why is time important?

It is the first & the fourth thing God created. Time is the only thing God created twice (Gen 1:3, 14). Time is what is measured to us to fulfill God’s purpose (Psalm 90:12, Psalm 39:4-6). Time is what determines everything that we ever become in life; the reason it’s called ‘lifetime’ (John 9:4). Time protects us from forever. We can’t be in an experience forever. It will soon come to an end (Psalm 30:5).

So how should we spend our time?

Our time should first of all be spent seeking God or spent in His presence (Gen 3:8). Our time should be spent worshiping God & in deep communion with Him. Spend your time in fellowship with others because of the strength of togetherness. We need other people in our lives. Our time should be spent in discovery & the fulfillment and pursuit of our purpose in life (John 12:27).

Malcolm Gladwell stated the 10,000 hour rule in his book: “Outlier”. Investing these hours in any field over time makes you an expert. Michael Phelps, the greatest olympian with 28 gold medals at age 28 said he spends an average 12 hours (including holidays) daily swimming. It’s no surprise that after 5 years of such investments he came to 2014 Athens Olympics to dazzle the world.

God also wants us to be good stewards of our bodies. It’s God property committed to you (1 Cor 9:27). The human body is not evil. It’s created to be the temple of the Holy spirit. It is sin that compromises our heart & body. We are to give our body to God (Romans 12:1-2). It must be a decisive & unconditional act. It must be an on-going and life-long commitment, holy & pleasing to God (Rom 6:13).

Now, what more should we surrender to Him in stewardship?

Out tongues & eyes (James 1:26) because your body is the temple of Christ, you can’t feed it junk. It is our duty to eat well & take care our body.
