According to bibleoverview.com, the concept of thanks appears 102 times in the old testament while thankfulness appears 72 times in the new testament. “Thanks”, “Thankfulness” and “Thanksgiving” are words/attitude that we cannot joke with as Christians because these words tell the level of our relationship with God.
Imagine you have a child who always gets something from you but never says thank you. After a while, even you as the parent will not be motivated to give that child anything. Thanksgiving is the expression of gratitude, especially to God. It’s an act of worship to God, not only for what He has done but for also who He is. Only a great fool will not be grateful.
As we grow in our relationship with God, let us get to the point where we say “Thank You” not just for the good that’s happened in our lives but also for the fact that He is God over all things.
So you may ask, what should I be thankful for? Let us give you some reasons;
- His mercies that endures forever
- His lovingkindness
- His faithfulness
- His protection
- His provision
- His care
You also have reasons to be thankful for the air you breath, your good health, sound mind …and the list goes on and on. Even for our nation Nigeria, it could have been worse, we’ve got to be thankful. Family, friends and loved ones are amongst so many other powerful reasons to be thankful.
Do not forget what the Psalmist said in Psalm 103, “Bless the Lord Oh my soul and forget not his benefits“.
