Tired, But Not Broken

Fibi was tired. Tired of it all. Of the job, her marriage, her children and even her life. She just wanted a get away and forget everything. She took a quick look at her wardrobe and wept. She could not remember when last she wore her red stiletto heels and her pretty black dress.

Now, her life is occupied with children crying and pulling at each other’s hair. Refusing to eat their food and destroying different items in the house. Occupied with a husband who seem not to care as he comes home late at night after spending time with the boys; he thinks he’s having a good time and a good life. She could not remember when last they went out together for dinner or when she went swimming with friends and letting her hair lose. She can’t even remember when last she made a nice hair.

With tears still running down her eyes, she put on the stiletto heels and cat walked to the mirror. She looked at her self and flashed back to her “Uni” days. She was young and free then, had time to party, fellowship and groom. How she had longed to be the woman she now was: married with children. She didn’t envisage all these.

Suddenly, she heard a scream from around her as her body shook. That jolted her back to reality. It was her eldest daughter shaking and crying, asking what was going on. Apparently, she had been staring at her mom all the while. Fibi looked at her daughter, tears still running down her eyes as she uttered, “I feel like am dying, I am dying inside.” “But why mummy, what’s wrong?”, her daughter asked. “I don’t know baby, I feel very overwhelmed. and frustrated.” Fibi muttered, she wasn’t sure how to respond to her daughter. Titi was confused and visibly shaken by her mom’s response.

“Do you hate us mummy? Is it something daddy did? Please forgive us, we love you Please don’t leave us.” She said as she threw her arms round her mom, sobbing. “Oh no Love, you didn’t do anything wrong neither did dad. I am just tired, overwhelmed and confused about my life and wish…” she said as she choked on her tears.

“Did you say tired and confused mom? How can you be mummy? Life is beautiful and full of lovely things like you, daddy, Kemi and Bode. God has made everything beautiful for us.” She laughed and hugged her daughter as the word, “God” escaped her lips. “Yes God”, Titi said “and you know what mommy, He can make you happy again if we pray and ask Him. So close your eyes mummy, lets pray.” Titi felt a burden lift from her heart as her 7 years old daughter prayed for her. Her life wasn’t bad after all, she is raising her kids right, she thought as she let on a big smile.

It’s so easy to fall into depression when you lose track of God in your situation. Don’t let life overwhelm you. Stop struggling alone, call on Him and He will sort you out.
