Weathering Social Media Storms

If you have seen the news lately, it would seem that’s there’s some type of rapture happening. Not the type that was seen in the book of Revelation by John. It’s the rapture of all your fav celebrities by Nigerian financial crime agents.

I bet two weeks ago, a lot of us were like “God when?” or were ‘tapping’ into wealth and the flagrant display of wealth on SM. When one dares to ask about the celeb’s source of income, you get tagged a ‘hater’.

Earlier this year, it seemed that these particular set of people were winning and #goals! But alas! How the tides have turned and having a legitimate source of income is once more being celebrated.

“For God is not a God of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints”. (1 Corinthians 14:33)

The Bible puts it perfectly: there is always a time and season for everything. Understanding this and how it works is the key to living a purpose-driven and extraordinary life.

Guess what’s funny… the same people (social media, in-laws, friends, family and judges) that they lived this ludicrous life for (people who hailed them as #goals) are the same people who now judged and sentenced them to hang. Next time when you feel pressured, think again! Who am I trying to impress? If the world were to be blind, would you still do the things you do and live the way you do?

Don’t be afraid of hard work. Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty being gainfully employed, because the same people that laugh at you for not using the latest iPhone or for wearing the same outfit twice won’t be there for you when you can’t feed. They will be the first to laugh at you and use you as an example of what online beggars look like. So choose your shame wisely.

They may seem to be winning right now but best believe that God is not asleep. If He made the moon to mark the seasons and the sun knows its time for setting (Psalm 104:19), then be assured that your hard work will not go unnoticed.

Do not be swayed by the crowd, just because everyone is doing it doesn’t make it right. God does not reward thieves.

“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers”. (Psalms 1:1‭-‬3 NIV)

Don’t be in a hurry. Trust that God’s timing is always perfect.
