Work-Life Balance: How Possible?

Work-life balance is a term commonly used to describe the balance that a working individual needs between time allocated for work and other aspects of life.

These other areas of life include, but are not limited to, personal interests, family and social or leisure activities. For Christians, you also factor in time for God and Kingdom assignments.

Now Sarah is struggling so much, that she is gradually relegating to the background her service to God.

To her, it was the easiest thing to let go of. Looking at things realistically, she was at work Monday to Friday for more than 8 hours of the day, including travel time.

On Saturdays, she would spend her time cleaning and cooking and really had no time to rest.

On most Sundays, she goes to Church but she has been quite tired recently and so only listens online to the message or a recording of it. She feels church and the usual Sunday activities are becoming too demanding and stressful.

She no longer has time for the things she was happy and open to doing before God blessed her with the job.

Shame flooded her, as she also realised God would still get His work done using other available resources.

Irrespective of whether she made herself available or not, God’s storehouse is too full for Him to lack a tool. Her only option is to rearrange her priorities and create time for service to God.

Are you sometimes choked up with work like Sarah, then you need to learn how to prioritize the demands of your work and personal life.

Decide what you do with each minute and hour of every day and take breaks to go on mini-holidays if you need to.

Seek help, read articles that will help and ask for counselling. Never make the mistake of thinking that the first activity to let go of is your service to God.

Diligence at work also starts with diligence to the things of God.
